FDA lets public search drug approvals with new database

Rockville, Md. — A new public database allows users to search for descriptions of drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine.

The Web-based service, unveiled today, is called Animal Drugs @ FDA. It replaces FDA's Green Book, a database developed, managed and published by the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary's Drug Information Laboratory. Formally known as Database of Approved Animal Drugs, the book was first published in January 1989, and has included monthly updates ever since.

Animal Drugs @ FDA appears to offer the same service, with a search engine. The tool not only allows users to conduct simple word searches, but it's also capable of more complex searches through the following criteria: NADA/ANADA, Sponsor, Ingredients, Proprietary, Dose Form, Route, Species and Indication.

Information on listed drugs previously released in the Green Book will continue be found on the CVM Web site.
