Course Information:
This course is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical guidelines for managing the nutritional needs of cats diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a common condition in older cats that can significantly impact their quality of life. Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in managing CKD and slowing down the progression of the disease. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the nutritional requirements for cats with chronic kidney disease and be equipped with practical strategies to optimize their feline patients' well-being and quality of life.
- Understand the pathophysiology and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in cats.
- Recognize the importance of nutrition in managing CKD and its impact on cats’ overall health and well-being.
- Identify the specific nutritional requirements for cats with CKD, including protein, phosphorus, and other key nutrients.
- Learn about the different types of commercial cat foods available for cats with CKD and their pros and cons.
- Understand dietary modification principles and therapeutic diets' role in managing CKD.

Course Agenda:Week 1 (Real Time Session September 27): Feeding Cats with Chronic Kidney Disease
In this session, participants will have a solid understanding of the nutritional requirements for cats with chronic kidney disease and be equipped with practical strategies to optimize their feline patients' well-being and quality of life. Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.
