Course RTS Times in Your Area: World Clock Converter Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course will be open to veterinary technicians/technologists and support staff actively interested in furthering their understanding in the hepatobiliary system.

This course will discuss the anatomy and functions of the liver. This interactive class will teach participants about hepatic and post hepatic diseases. Special considerations for patients with liver disease will be discussed. Week 1 (Real Time Session November 10): Introduction/Review: What does the Liver do?
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Show an understanding of the anatomy of the hepatobiliary system.
- Identify the major functions of the liver.
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Show an understanding of acute hepatitis.
- Discuss chronic hepatitis and understand the differences between acute and chronic hepatitis.
- Show an understanding of hepatic lipidosis.
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Show an understanding of cholangitis complex.
- Discuss extra hepatic biliary obstructions.
- Show an understanding of biliary mucoceles.
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Identify special considerations for nutrition in the liver patient.
- Discuss appropriate sedation and anesthetic protocols for the liver patient.
- Show an understanding of liver dysfunction and the role it plays in the consideration of drug choices.
Required Textbook: There is no required textbook for this course. About the Presenter:
Ashley DiPrete, RVT, VTS (SAIM) is currently the Internal Medicine Department Lead and the Technician Training Supervisor at Iron Horse Vet Care in Dublin California. She attended the Veterinary Technology program at the College of Southern Nevada and received her Registered Veterinary Technician license in 2009. In 2016, she earned her Veterinary Technician Specialty certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine. She currently is the President of AIMVT (2019). In 2019, she also co-founded Internal Medicine for Pet Parents to support owners of pets with chronic medicine conditions. Total CE Credit: 6
