Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session is up to 1 hour in length. For more information, please visit the CE Practice Area.

*The instructors for this course will be using audio which will require you to have a headset or speakers to listen. If you have any concerns regarding your computer's audio capabilities, please be sure to attend one of the Practice Sessions.

Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will provide an overview of canine and feline diseases with an emphasis on the client education and communication veterinary support staff should know in small animal practice
VSPN CE Course: Open to all veterinary staff. �This program (#22-13789) has been approved by AAVSB RACE to offer a total of 6.0 CE Credits, with a maximum of__6.0 CE Credits being available to any individual veterinary technician/technologist. This RACE approval is for the subject matter categories of: Non-Scientific-Clinical, Non-Scientific-Practice Management/Professional Development using the delivery method of Interactive-Distance: (Web-based, Teleconference or Audio-Conference). This approval is valid in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE; however, participants are responsible for ascertaining each board�s CE requirements.�

Course Description:
Veterinary team members should be able to recognize and describe the many diseases and conditions diagnosed in the small animal veterinary hospital. Support staff should be able to help educate clients in the process of how a veterinarian diagnoses disease, body systems involved, and follow up care after diagnosis. This course will also give an overview of diagnostic testing, symptoms of diseases, follow up protocols, dietary needs for some diseases and client education for canine and feline species. Preventable diseases will also be included to alert staff to the symptoms of these diseases and to better educate clients in the value of vaccination.

Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructors:
Barb Burri, MEd, MBA, CVT, LVT is the CE Content Wrangler for VSPN and an adjunct faculty member at Great Bay Community College in their veterinary technology program, instructing in the areas of Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, Computers in Veterinary Medicine, and Clinical Methods. Barb teaches several other VSPN CE courses.
Marisa Rhyne, LVT, VTS (ECC, SAIM) is a LVT in Texas at a specialty practice in North Dallas. She has worked in specialty practice since 2004, as well as general and emergency practice since 1997. She previously taught for 3 years, in the Certified Veterinary Assistant program at Collin County Community College Health Sciences Continuing Education Department and the University of Texas at Arlington Health Careers Institute.

Tuition: $120 ($108 early bird special if enrolled by February 18, 2016)

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
