This
intermediate course course is focused toward veterinary technicians and veterinary technician students involved with anesthetizing patients.

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of hypotension seen in anesthesia patients. The discussion will include causes for hypotension, techniques to reduce the incidence of hypotension, and steps to address hypotension including the drugs used to treat this common anesthesia problem.
This course consists of one (1) Real Time Session of two hours (120 minutes), supplemental library materials,
interactive message board discussions, a mandatory end-of-course test, and may include online multiple
choice quizzes (after each Real Time Session).

About the Instructors:
Dianne Hudson has worked at the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital since 1984. She has had a diverse career working in multiple departments including Small Animal Medicine, Equine Medicine and Surgery, Small Animal ICU as the Staff Supervisor in addition to her role as in anesthesia for the past 20 plus years. Dianne has had the pleasure of teaching ECG interpretation in a private practice setting, as a guest lecturer for Tulsa Community College, Murray State College and OSU-OKC veterinary technician programs. She has also designing an interactive computer based course covering anesthesia monitoring in addition lecturing on ECG interpretation at the Southwest Veterinary Symposium
Course Outline:
Week 1 (Real Time Session December 18, 2014):
Hypotension in the Small Animal Anesthesia Patient
Content:
This single Real Time Session will cover the definition of hypotension, causes and techniques for avoiding hypotension in the small animal anesthesia patient. We will then review the step-by-step ways of addressing hypotension with a focus on inotropes and vasopressures. The Real Time Session will also include ECG interpretation in the form of poll questions identifying several ECG examples. Last, the participants will interactively work through a minimum of three case studies.
CE Credits: 2.5
