This
basic course will be open to veterinarians actively interested
a refresher on the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism and to practitioners seeking
guidance on the use of trilostane.

Course Information:
This course will detail the diagnosis and medical management of canine hyperadrenocorticism.
The instructors will have an overview of available options for medical management of
hyperadrenocorticism, with a more detailed discussion on the use of trilostane.
Week 1 (Real Time Session December 4, 2016):
Diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- describe normal adrenal physiology and regulation of the
hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
- diagnose hyperadrenocorticism.
- discuss the pros and cons for each endocrine test in various clinical scenarios.
Week 2 (Real Time Session December 11, 2016):
Treatment of hyperadrenocorticism

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- describe the medical management of canine Cushing's disease.
- describe the use of mitotane and trilostane in clinical practice,
including trilostane usage.
- describe possible treatment complications.
- describe how atypical hyperadrenocorticism can complicate treatment.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

Required Textbook(s): There is no required textbook for this course.
About the Presenters:
Todd Archer completed veterinary school at Mississippi State University,
and loved it so much that he stayed for an internal medicine residency, obtained board
certification by the ACVIM, and is now a member of the faculty.
Patty Lathan received her veterinary degree from the University
of Pennsylvania and completed a small animal internal medicine residency at
Purdue University. Following board certification by the ACVIM, she returned to
Mississippi State University, where she had previously completed her internship.
