This
basic course is geared toward veterinarians seeking a refresher on the
diagnosis of Hyperadrenocorticism, and practitioners that would like more guidance
on the use of trilostane.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians.
This course is approved by RACE for veterinarians.

Course Description:
This course will detail the diagnosis and medical management of canine hyperadrenocorticism.
The instructors will have an overview of available options for medical management
of hyperadrenocorticism, with a more detailed discussion on the use of trilostane.
This course consists of two (2) 2-hour Real Time Session, supplemental library materials,
interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory end-of-course test.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- uUnderstand normal adrenal physiology and regulation of the
hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
- understand how to diagnose hyperadrenocorticism, including pros and cons
for each endocrine test in various clinical scenarios.
- understand management of canine Cushing's disease.

About the Instructors:
Todd Archer completed veterinary school at Mississippi
State University, and loved it so much that he stayed for an internal
medicine residency, obtained board certification by the ACVIM,
and is now a member of the faculty.
Patty Lathan received her veterinary degree from
the University of Pennsylvania and completed a small animal internal
medicine residency at Purdue University. Following board certification
by the ACVIM, she returned to Mississippi State University,
where she had previously completed her internship.

Week 1 (Real Time Session May 18, 2014):
Diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism

Clinical signs, minimum database findings,
and definitive diagnosis (including screening and
differentiating tests) of canine hyperadrenocorticism.
Week 2 (Real Time Session May 25, 2014):
Treatment of hyperadrenocorticism

Content:
Medical treatment and monitoring (including mitotane
and trilostane), treatment complications,
and other modes of treatment.
