Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience
in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first
Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session
is up to 1 hour in length.

Level and Prerequisites:
This
basic course will be open to to veterinarians, both owners and associates,
who are contemplating buying or selling a practice. This course is a prerequisite if you are
interested in taking any one of the following modules
in the Successful Practice Transition and Ownership course series:
- PRAC131-0417: Module 2 - What you need to do when you want to buy-in
- PRAC132-0417: Module 3 - What you need to do when you want to buy-out
- PRAC133-0417: Module 4 - What you need to do when you want to start-up

Course Information:
Each of the modules in the Successful Practice Transition and Ownership series
will identify key issues, common opportunities,
as well as specific risks in considering each one of these life changing decisions.
With the exception of the opportunity to become a veterinarian, the decision to own
a practice and the decision to sell is the biggest life changing choice a veterinarian makes.
The detailed sessions in these four modules will provide the information you need
to make a successful ownership decision.
The first in a series of 4 courses, this course will provide an overview
of the practice transition process.
Week 1 (Real Time Session April 19, 2017):

Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- know what team members s/he needs
- review options for practice ownership
- identify opportunities to sell your practice
- establish valuation of a veterinary practice
- understand tax and corporate practice entity decisions
- distinguish leasing versus buying practice location
- understand location investigation and other location due diligence issues
- identify design concerns
- determine financing options
- understand co-owner agreements
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Presenters:
Dr. Thom Haig received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University.
He is the owner of a 3 doctor small animal hospital in Knoxville, TN and a practice management
consultant specializing in staff utilization doctor production, staff doctor and client scheduling,
associate mentoring, production and buy-ins. He is also the Co-Editor of the
VIN Practice Management boards.
Edward Guiducci is the Principal of the Law Firm of Guiducci and Guiducci,
P.C. in Arvada, CO. He received his Juris Doctoral from Washburn University School of Law
and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Law Association as well as the American
and Colorado State Bar Associations.
Michael Porrello is a partner at Lacher, McDonald and Co., CPAs.
He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Certified Valuation Analyst in the state
of Florida. He leads the business valuation segment of his firm and works with veterinarians
throughout the country providing accounting, tax, and consulting services.
Total CE Credit: 1.5

- Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to
VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course
must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a
VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
