Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience
in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first
Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session
is up to 1 hour in length.

Level and Prerequisites:
This introductory level course is designed for veterinarians interested
in adding a Small Ruminant/Camelid reproductive medicine component in their practice.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians only.
This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians.
Course Description:
Babies? Infertility? Best time to castrate? Reproductive ultrasound? Assisted reproduction?
If your clients are asking these questions about their sheep, goats, llamas and alpacas, and
you're struggling with the answers, you'll want to take this course.
One week will be devoted to reproductive medicine of small ruminants, the other to camelids.
By the end of it, you should have a foundation in the reproductive issues of these always popular animals.
This course consists of two (2) 2-hour Real Time Sessions,
supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory
end-of-course test.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- understand reproductive physiology of sheep, goats and camelids
- diagnose pregnancy in sheep, goats and camelids
- provide neonatal care for sheep, goats and camelids
- counsel clients on successful breeding strategies for sheep, goats and camelids

in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.

About the Instructors:
Ned Gentz, DVM, MS, ACZM received his veterinary degree from Colorado State University
and completed an internship in zoo, wildlife, and exotic animal medicine at Kansas State University.
Dr. Gentz serves as a Consultant in the Avian, Small/Exotic Mammals, Reptile/Amphibian and Ruminants folders on VIN.
He was formerly Staff Veterinarian at Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, Director of Veterinary Services
at the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and Clinical Instructor of Exotic Animal Medicine and Wildlife Health
at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
VIN Consultant,
Ellen Wiedner, VMD, DACVIM (LAIM), received her veterinary degree
from the University of Pennsylvania.
She completed an internship in ambulatory and production medicine at Cornell University and
a large animal internal medicine residency at Purdue University.
Dr. Wiedner is currently clinical faculty at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Week 1 (Real Time Session August 5):
Llamas and Alpacas

This session will discuss reproductive physiology, breeding management, gestation and parturition
of llamas and alpacas.
Week 2 (Real Time Session August 12):
Sheep and Goats
Instructor(s): Ellen Wiedner, VMD, DACVIM (LAIM)
Content:
This session will discuss reproductive physiology, breeding management, gestation and parturition of sheep and goats.
CE CREDITS: 4
Tuition: Member $80 ($72 early bird special if enrolled by July 15).
Non-Member $150 ($135 early bird special if enrolled by July 15).
*To ensure participants are ready and prepared for classes, enrollment will close when
the maximum number of participants is reached or at 5pm ET the day of the first
Real Time Session unless otherwise noted. If the first Real Time Session is on a
weekend, course enrollment will close on the Friday before the first Real Time Session.

VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course
