COURSE DESCRIPTION
For those participants not taking module one, self-study materials related the general central nervous system exam and diagnostic processes applicable to equine neurologic disease will be provided. This second module of the two module course will cover advanced neurologic diseases including: head and spinal cord trauma, botulism, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, cerebellar and vestibular disease, seizures, several bacterial and viral diseases, and grass sickness.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be expected:

Week 1:
Head and spinal cord trauma (Reed/Nout)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Week 2
Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (Reed/Nout)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Seizures (Lacombe, Reed)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Week 3
Botulism (Reed/Murphy)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Grass sickness (Nout/Reed)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Week 4
Cerebellar Disease (Rush/Reed)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Vestibular Disease (Rush/Reed)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis, treatment and outcome will be discussed
Week 5
Bacterial and Other Viral Diseases (Furr/Sampieri/Reed/Andrews/Saville)
Meningitis, Rabies, Alphavirus Encephalitides, Borna Disease will be discussed
MESSAGE BOARD DISCUSSIONS:
Discussions will begin on the start date of the course and will continue for 7 days following the last real time session.

Equine Neurology Module A is NOT required as a prerequisite to take Module B.
We have designed the two modules to be taken independently.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (Does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
