Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience
in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first
Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session
is up to 1 hour in length.

If you have any concerns regarding your computer's audio capabilities, please be sure to attend
one of the Practice Sessions.
Level and Prerequisites:
This
basic course will be open to veterinarians
actively interested in the correlation between gross lesions and cytopathology.
It is recommended that veterinary students have previous course experience
with cytology or gross pathology.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians.
This course is approved by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 22-29048)
Course Information:
Identifying a logical list of differential diagnoses for a gross lesion,
based on general shape, color, texture and location is a key skill for
the practicing clinician. Additionally, clinicians serve their clients
well by efficiently evaluating cytologic preparations to develop a list
of likely differentials prior to submission to a clinical pathologist
to develop an effective treatment plan.
Week 1 (Real Time Session June 13, 2017):
Neoplastic Lesions
Presenters: Britton Grasperge, DVM
Eric Snook, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Anatomic Pathology)
Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- identify common neoplastic lesions and provide an appropriate differential list.
- identify basic cytologic characteristics of cells/structures aspirated from lesions.
- improve accuracy and skills in both gross and cytologic pathology.
Week 2 (Real Time Session June 20, 2017):
Other Lesions
Presenters: Britton Grasperge, DVM
Eric Snook, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Anatomic Pathology)
Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- describe common predilection sites for various infectious/inflammatory conditions.
- understand the value of identifying a pustule, collarette, hyperkeratosis, etc.,
on gross examination.
- describe key cytologic features from different infectious/inflammatory conditions and
their correlates from the gross examination.
- identify specific non-infectious/non-inflammatory conditions that commonly arise.
- describe specific cytologic criteria for these miscellaneous lesions.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
To learn more about the requirements for earning a CE certificate, please refer to
Receiving Your CE Credit and Course Completion Certificate.
Course Materials: Course materials will be available
in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.
Required Textbook(s): There is no required textbook for this course.
