intermediate course will be open to veterinarians
actively interested in dermatology.

Course Description:
The course will familiarize participants with the two most common
and commonly confused autoimmune skin diseases of the dog, pemphigus
foliaceus and discoid lupus erythematosus. The session will be
primarily directed to practicing veterinarians and focused on
diagnosis and treatment.
The real time session will provide a brief overview of the
pathophysiology of pemphigus foliaceus and discoid lupus erythematous
with an emphasis on how this influences the different diagnostic
findings for each condition. Information will then be presented
about developing a diagnostic plan for the patient.
Finally, the session will review common immunosuppressive and
immunomodulatory treatment options and include clinical tips
for patient management.
From the clinical perspective, this course will familiarize
participants with many aspects of diagnosing and managing canine
pemphigus foliaceus and discoid lupus erythematosus. The session will
contain informative and practical information for veterinarians.
This course consists of one (1) 2-hour Real Time Session, supplemental library materials,
interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory end-of-course test.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructors:
Dr. Tater earned her DVM from Cornell University in 2002
and has since practiced clinical medicine while also teaching and conducting
research at multiple institutions (North Carolina State University, Angell
Animal Medical Center, Animal Allergy and Dermatology in Virginia, Tufts University).
Dr. Tater is Board-Certified in Veterinary Dermatology by the American
College of Veterinary Dermatology

and Certified in Public Health. Dr. Tater also earned a BS from the
University of Maryland in 1998 and a MPH in Quantitative Methods

Health in 2012. She is the author of multiple research articles and
book chapters and is a member of the Editorial Board for the journal
Veterinary Dermatology.

Canine Pemphigus Foliaceus vs Discoid Lupus Erythematosus
Content:
Information will be presented on the differences between canine
pemphigus foliaceus and discoid lupus erythematosus in the following
areas: pathophysiology, diagnostic approach, and common treatment options.
The session will conclude with practical tips for managing patients on
immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory treatments.
