Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. *The presenter for this course will be using audio which will require you to have a headset or speakers to listen. If you have any concerns regarding your computer's audio capabilities, please be sure to attend one of the Practice Sessions.

Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians with an interest in allergy and how it relates to dermatology. Participants should have a basic understanding of cutaneous anatomy, physiology and immunology, and have access to basic dermatology textbooks.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians. This course is approved by RACE for veterinarians. (RACE 22-14496)

Course Information:
Pathophysiology of disease, immunology and pharmacology will be discussed however the sessions will be primarily directed to practicing veterinarians. The course will familiarize participants with the current state of allergic and pruritic skin diseases including diagnosis and therapeutic interventions.

The first real time session will provide an overview of principles of atopic dermatitis for both canine and feline patients. Will be discussing old problems and new treatments.

The second session will directed at the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of food allergy and cutaneous adverse food reactions. Information about inflammatory bowel disease will not be included. The end of the second session will be a compilation of miscellaneous skin diseases that can lead to pruritus in the dog and cat. These will include but not be limited to contact dermatitis, pemphigus complex, erythema multiforme and other diseases presented in a case study format.

From the clinical perspective, this course will familiarize the participants with many aspects of veterinary dermatology as related to the pruritic patient. Both sessions will contain informative and practical information for veterinarians.

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.

About the Presenter:
VIN Consultant and ACVD boarded dermatologist Mitchell Song received his veterinary degree from Mississippi State University and completed a residency in dermatology at the University of California, Davis. He is currently the owner of Animal Dermatology, PC in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona USA.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
